United Considers Buying Boeing 767 Passenger Jets

United is considering replacing wide-body planes with new Boeing 767 passenger jets, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. Boeing has been looking for ways to restart production of the model, and United is looking to replace its older wide-body planes which are 35 years old on average.

I really wish a bit more effort could go into researching the headline articles, as they pretty much all seem to miss the point lately. United's 767s are most certainly not 35 years old on average. The 767 was first introduced in 1982, but the oldest in United's fleet was built in 1991 (26 years old). Many are much younger, especially the -400ERs. This information can easily be confirmed in minutes using free internet sources.
Why buy 767s when you can get more modern 787s? And if Boeing needs to re-start something, it should be the 757.....
