For the fourth consecutive year, North Korea’s Air Koryo has been named the “world’s worst” airline by SkyTrax consultancy agency. The ranking is based on a five-star system with a list that included more than 180 airlines, evaluated primarily on service instead of safety.

Simon Cockerell of Koryo Group – a North Korean travel agency – disagrees with the notion that Air Koryo is the worst airline in the world, but he did acknowledge that the airline has some weaknesses in areas SkyTrax analyzes, such as crews who don’t tend to speak foreign languages efficiently and meals that leave quite a bit to be desired.

Has SkyTrax EVER had any credibility with frequent flyers? For as long as I can remember, their ratings have been regarded as a joke/motivated by airline marketing teams rather than any objective criteria.

Ridiculous - how would such a tiny airline even have a chance to alienate a sufficient number of passengers? With such abominations as the AI leviathan cruising the skies, this just the last leftover of cheap Cold War propaganda.

I can't be the only one to think this.... Could the rating be politically motivated? SkyTraxx is a western based organization after all.

Oh, man. Cannot wait for specifics about the frequent flyer program. The lounges? Room temperature water and jail cells?
