Released: Audio Between Southwest Flight 1380 and the Tower Before the Emergency Landing
Yesterday, an engine malfunction on a Southwest 737 resulted in an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), the loss of life of one passenger, and injury to seven others.
The engine malfunction on Southwest Flight 1380 happened as the plane was en route from New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), bound for Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL).
This audio recording reveals conversations between the flight’s pilot and PHL’s Air Traffic Control as the pilot, Navy veteran Tammie Jo Shults, guides the plane to the ground with professional calm even in this tragic emergency.

Thankfully, the passengers weren't privy to the poor choice of words from the tower: "Let me know when you want to go in" could easily be misconstrued...
