Raiders Nation Cleans Liquor Cabinet of Southwest Flight

Captain sends message of congratulations to flight after purchasing all liquor aboard aircraft.

Fans of the Oakland Raiders are known for their love of partying – and proved it on a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland International Airport (OAK) to Kansas City International Airport (KCI). Fox News reports the flight was entirely cleaned out of liquor prior to their arrival.

The achievement was reported by The Mercury News reporter Jimmy Durkin, who covers the Raiders during football season. Flying with multiple Raiders fans ahead of their Thursday Night Football game, Durkin posted on Twitter that the aircraft was declared dry midway through the three-hour flight.

However, instead of scolding the passengers for their flying party, the captain did something surprising. According to Durkin, the pilot got on the speaker and congratulated the flight.

Inebriated or overserved passengers often contribute to “air rage” incidents, causing the removal of flyers or unnecessary diversions prior to the intended destination. In February 2016, Turkish carrier Pegasus Airlines was forced to divert after a drunk flyer was caught stealing liquor from a galley cart. In April 2016, two flyers were removed and arrested from an EasyJet flight after they began displaying “disruptive and drunk” behavior. In November 2016, a Condor Airlines flight was diverted to Jacksonville when an allegedly drunk passenger was accused of stripping his clothes off and threatening a three-year-old child.

Despite the drinking aboard the Southwest flight, Durkin described the flight to Fox News as “not particularly rowdy.” He also noted the flight was usual for Raiders fans traveling to support their team.

Although the flyers may have been in good spirits, their trip did not have the ideal ending. The Raiders ultimately lost to their division rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, by a score of 21-13.

An "optimally" catered flight would sell the last bottle while on final approach to landing. Any more, they catered too much; any less, they didn't put on enough.

Brilliant way for the Captain to cut off every drunk on the plane but make them feel "proud" at the same time. I wonder how much booze was actually left?
