Norwegian Air Suspends Las Vegas Flights Due to Summer Heat

In March, low-cost carrier Norwegian Air plans to suspend all four of its Las Vegas flights, citing hot weather as a source of performance issues for its Boeing 787 aircraft.

“This is not something we’ve had happen anywhere else,” said Norwegian Air spokesperson Anders Lindström.

“It didn’t happen that often, but it was enough times to make us realize that it was (an) issue and we didn’t want to keep delaying our customers.”

Norwegian Air’s summer typically runs from March to November.

Lengthen the runways? LAS has year-round 744 service to London on BA (LGW, I think)...don't think it's the runways that are the problem. It may be that Norwegian's load could be the issue on their 788s, as they tend to pack people in more than, say, BA.

If possible, the runways at LAS should be lengthened to account for the increased takeoff distance

The people at Boeing should take notice because if that's an occurrence for other flight to high-temperature regions of the world (think the Middle East, where the 788 / 780 competes for sales with the A380) it could start to lose favor with a few mayor customers. In the other case, the administration of LAS should check these complaints as indicators if other airlines try to leave the city (could this be the case in which in reality Norwegian overestimated that route's potential, as they only flown 4x A WEEK, but they don't want to tell the truth...).

Well, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement for the Dreamliner then, is it?

Sounds like EU Regulation 261 is what killed the route. A few hours late and everybody (who knows the rule) gets 600 euro richer.
