In Brief: Stinky Bags Delay Southwest Flight, Hazmat Crew Says Hairspray to Blame

A leaky can of hairspray caused Southwest Airlines Flight 2436 to be delayed by more than an hour Wednesday evening at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Ramp agents reported smelling a suspicious odor coming from two pieces of checked luggage on the Chicago-bound Boeing 737-800.

Firefighters were called in to investigate, but they did not find anything on their initial search. On their second walk-through, however, the hazmat team was able to locate the bag and the leaky aerosol canister inside. WN2436 arrived at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW).
