In Brief: Single Flight Forced to Make Two Emergency Landings in Same Day

Although the airline was recently named one of the most reliable in the world, a single Ethiopian Airlines flight was forced to make two emergency landings in the same day. ET607, a Boeing 777-300ER carrying 283 passengers, was en route from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) to Bole International Airport (ADD) Tuesday when the trouble began.

Around eight hours into the 10-hour trip, the flight made its first unscheduled landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) because it was low on fuel. The refueled aircraft took off again three hours later, but unspecified “engine trouble” over the Arabian Sea quickly forced it to return to BOM.

No injuries were reported. Passengers received hotel accommodation in Mumbai, 12 hours after their flight initially departed from CAN.
