In Brief: Flight Delayed Because TSA Agents Went Home Early

Spirit Airlines Flight 332 from Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) took off four hours behind schedule Sunday night due to bad weather and a lack of TSA agents at ACY. All of the airport’s agents had reportedly gone home for the evening by the time the pilot and first officer of NK332 arrived for processing, both crew members delayed by weather on an earlier flight. Agents had to be called back to ACY in order to process them before they could board.

Passengers were originally scheduled to board the flight at 5 p.m., but severe weather in a different part of the country delayed boarding until 8 p.m. Once onboard, passengers were informed that their delay wasn’t over just yet thanks to a of lack of TSA agents available to process the pilots. Pilots boarded the flight nearly an hour and NK332 landed at BOS around 10 p.m.

I agree with the above. The crew would not go through TSA screening if they truly had come in on another flight. Certainly Atlantic City does not have more that one terminal for which they had to change terminals and go back through screening. Maybe they went out for a smoke or a bite to eat and the TSA screening was closed.

There's got to be more to this. If this were true, then the pilots arriving on the flight delayed by weather will have been airside already and not needed to be processed by TSA.
