In Brief: Defective Coffee Machine Leads to Flight Cancellation
Passengers onboard an Austrian Airlines Boeing 767 found themselves booking alternative flights Saturday after a defective coffee machine lead to the cancellation of their original travel plans. Flight OS-89, en route to Newark Liberty International (EWR), was forced to return to Vienna International Airport (VIE) after smoke was spotted coming from the galley.
Cabin crew quickly extinguished the small-scale blaze with fire extinguishers and turned off the galley power. Upon landing safely at VIE, the airline released a statement claiming the smoke originated from a coffee machine that experienced a technical defect. No injuries were reported.
