Garuda Denies Snake Accusations, Citing ‘Legless Lizards’ Aboard Flight

After reptiles escaped from the cargo hold of a Garuda flight, airline officials denied that the creatures were snakes but instead Lialis Burtonis lizards, a species commonly known as “legless lizards.”

“The animal physically looks like a snake, but after an examination and checking of the documents, they are lizards and not snakes,” said Benny S. Butarbutar, vice president of corporate communications at Garuda.

Butarbutar also claims that the rogue reptiles did not disrupt the flight or its operations and that Garuda is currently investigating the incident.
