China Considering Allowing In-Flight Phone Use

Legislation is currently being in considered in China that would relax restrictions on the use of mobile phones aboard flights, which could precipitate wider in-flight connectivity currently available only in select markets. The amendment would result in normalized in-flight phone use by the end of 2016 or by early 2017 according Zhu Tao, director of the air transportation division at the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Zhang Chi, China Eastern’s deputy director, “From a business perspective, we definitely hope that there’ll be a breakthrough in the policy review.”

“While I let passengers browse the internet for free, I can at the same time profit from advertisement and on-board shopping. There will be a big positive return.”
