Accor (Finally) Gets a Co-Branded Visa

Hotelier Accor wants to expand how frequent travelers engage with their loyalty program through introducing co-branded Visa cards around the world. The company will partner with the payment processing network to launch cards in many major economies which earn points in their loyalty program, Accor Live Limitless

Your favorite banks around the world will soon offer a new credit card in their lineup thanks to a new major partnership: the Accor Live Limitless (ALL) Visa card. The hospitality company announced a new relationship with global payment processing network Visa, with the goal of launching new co-branded cards around the world.

The ALL Visa card: A global card for a global audience

Under the new partnership, both Accor and Visa will work together to identify banks and financial institutions around the world to launch an ALL-branded credit card. These new cards will not be limited to one geographical region. Rather, the company plans to launch an ALL Visa card in “key markets across Europe, North and South America, Middle East and Asia Pacific.”

The timing is ripe for ALL to enter the credit card arena: Of the 250 million annual guests, 64 million are current loyalty program members. Accor’s portfolio includes 5,000 hotels in 110 destinations in their network. Some of their hotel brands include Fairmont, Softiel and Delano.

“This new initiative will provide unmatched benefits to our members and reinforce the success of our ALL loyalty program by increasing our member base driving additional engagement and giving each member incentives to stay with us more frequently and easily,” Sébastien Bazin, chairman and chief executive of Accor, said in a press release. “The development of ALL is a major milestone for us, and in Visa we are very pleased to have found a partner which shares our passion for delivering everyday rewards and recognition.”

What are the benefits of the ALL Visa Card?

While Accor has identified their payment partner, the future benefits of the card are very vague. While the two companies make it clear their new card will let members “earn more loyalty points when staying at an Accor property or when making purchases,” the actual benefits remain unannounced. The hotelier promises each product will “engage customers beyond their stay via industry-leading benefits and innovative digital, mobile-first experience,” but offered no word of elite status or complimentary nights for cardholders.

Benefits may also vary depending on which type of Visa card will be issued: the Visa Platinum card or the Visa Infinite card. Actual product offerings may vary based on the bank or financial institution partner.

Since Accor is already a cash back system (i.e.2000 points = 40 Euro off any hotel booking), a credit card would basically be a cash back credit card with limited use (i.e. only Accor hotels). Assuming you earned 1 point per dollar/euro spent, that would be roughly a 2% cash-back card. Not bad but not great.
