29 Passengers Caught Rectally Smuggling Gold

29 flyers traveling through Madurai Airport (IXM) traveling on a number of flights were discovered by The Department of Revenue Intelligence to be smuggling several grams of gold in their rectums. A total of 10.937 kilograms was seized from a total of 46 passengers, 29 of whom were smuggling the gold internally.

...there is a serious side to this. Gold is a "heavy metal" and inserting it into the rectum is a terrible idea. Gold Poisoning has some rather detrimental effects on the liver and kidneys as well as even neurological symptoms such as irritability and psychosis. True, most likely it is in some sort of packaging before being inserted, though should that package rupture, the metal would come into contact with the rectal membrane. A trend a while back was to do rectal shots of alcohol because the body absorbed it faster that way than ingesting it normally. .
