Anyone Can Use the First Class Bathrooms on American Airlines

The topic of just who gets to use the First Class bathroom came up last month, when passenger JT Gertner, who writes for The Points Guy, spotted several Economy Class passengers crossing the curtain-barrier between economy and first and lining up for the upgraded bathrooms.

So, he Tweeted @AmericanAir about it. And this was American Airlines’ response:

Gentner followed up with American Airlines’ PR team and they confirmed what was Tweeted: that economy passengers on any domestic flight or on any international flight leaving the United States can use First Class bathrooms.

But, says AA’s PR team, there’s one exception: on flights returning to the United States from other countries, the TSA requires that passengers use the bathrooms in their ticketed cabin.

This may be especially good news for those who are flying the 737 Max with the 24-inch wide, now notoriously tiny bathrooms that American Airlines recently launched.

All the bathrooms are economy bathrooms as Business and First Class passengers are not vulgar enough to defecate or urinate. Obs if you need to join the mile high club there is a dispensation allowing BC / FC passengers to use the facilities as long as it is with an economy passenger,

First of all, who cares! Second, why would the FAA take any position regarding who can use what bathroom? Furthermore, to limit the rule to inbound flights seems odd. Does the FAA even have jurisdiction over inbound flights before entering US airspace?

Thats a logical approach by AA and I hope everyone should follow the suit.

If they are to be used by anyone they should stop referring to them as first class bathrooms...

Funny, I don't read the article the same way as chrystinp. I read it to say that anyone can use the bathrooms on first class flights which are between two US domestic points, and they can use it on outbound US international flights. FAA rules prohibit the use of first-class bathrooms on inbound flights. I take no position on what the rule should be, I am simply relating what I am reading.
