Did United Really Give A Rude Passenger $1000 to Move Her Feet?
In a bizarre incident, a United Airlines passenger claimed that the carrier offered his seatmate $1,000 to take her feet off of her tray table. Frederick Joseph described the incident via Twitter earlier this week.
A passenger on a recent United Airlines flight has relayed an odd incident in which he claims the traveler seated next to him was offered $1,000 to remove her feet from her tray table, Inc reports. Frederick Joseph, a marketer, writer and the founder of We Have Stories, described the situation he encountered via a series of tweets earlier this week.
“This woman next to me took her shoes off and placed both feet on the table. So I’m waiting for flight staff to say something,” he posted. Joseph, who is black, then goes on to describe how the flight crew ignored the behavior of the woman, who is white.
As the woman’s apparent lack of manners had gone unnoticed, Joseph describes how he decided to take matters into his own hands. “So finally I decide to say something to the woman myself. So I say “ma’am, I’m trying to eat, and your feet are next to my food.” She says “what do you want me to do, the seats are small”.”
He then makes an unsuccessful attempt to get the passenger to put her feet on the floor.
At this point, the woman then summons a flight attendant to explain that it is in fact Joseph who is being disruptive. He then attempts to explain his view of the situation to the staff member, who reportedly said to Joseph, “Well what if she puts her feet closer to the window or puts one down.” According to Joseph’s account, the woman then makes a verbal riposte, saying, “If I put one foot down, I want to be accommodated for accommodating him.”
Joseph then tweets, “So the flight attendant speaks to the person in-charge on the plane and they give promise this woman a f***ing $1000 voucher.” He said that he asked the crew member if he would receive compensation for his discomfort, but was reportedly rebuffed.
The story was widely circulated before Joseph admitted via Twitter that he contacted United after his flight and was eventually informed that the passenger did not actually receive any compensation.

So if you look at the We Have Stories website, you can quickly tell that this story was a test of social reach.
My first thought was how this thoughtless woman could even get her feet onto the tray table in Y in the first place. Could it have even been comfortable? Secondly the FA should have instructed her to remove them. If she did not comply, well, we all know what happens on UA if you go that route, don't we?
Food on United airlines and food he wanted to eat? This story gotta be fake!
Can I get compensation for my discomfort at having to read this pointless story? I've never commented on a flyertalk article before (to my knowledge) and I understand in journalism there are pressures to get content published, but please take on board the comments you are receiving here.
