The following is text from an e-mail message released from American Airlines...

Nine people have reportedly already been killed — including seven personnel of the Airport Security Force — and at least 14 people have supposedly been wounded amidst heavy fighting with security forces at the busiest airport in Pakistan. Cleveland Airport No Longer a United Hub

June 5, 2014 by Brian Cohen

The fallout of the consolidation of commercial airlines in the United States includes the removal of hub status from airports — and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is the latest casualty, as it is no longer a hub airport of United Airlines as of today. As a result, today is the last day of employment for several hundred workers at the airport; Concourse D was locked down at midnight; and FlyerTalk members who are frequent fliers of United Airlines bid a sad farewell — especially as...

PEOPLExpress to Launch Service on June 30, 2014

June 3, 2014 by Brian Cohen

“What would motivate you to try a ‘new’ airline?” asked FlyerTalk member RoadWarriorChi after reading in the news about PEOPLExpress launching a new airline service on the east coast of the United States, using Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport as its hub and Norfolk as its base of operations. “I started thinking about how many airlines have come and gone in my 40 years and was wondering what would motivate me to try a new airline and whether or not it is possible in this day and age for a new air carrier to come to market and strike a cord with frequent flyers.” You can reserve flights as early as...

What Are The First Things You Do When Entering a Hotel Room?

June 6, 2014 by Brian Cohen

Mikel Bowman — one of the people instrumental with the launch of The Gate almost eight years ago — was prompted to highlight an article posted at the Points, Miles & Martinis weblog by The Weekly Flyer about hotel habits, which asked “What’s the first thing you do when you get into your hotel room?” I thought that was an interesting question; so I searched for — and found — a discussion on FlyerTalk pertaining to that very topic. I was going to be a smart you-know-what and say that the first thing I do is walk into the hotel room; but that can only occur if the key works — so the first thing I do is open the door to the hotel room. It is frustrating when I...

Brighton: A Mini Trip Report

June 4, 2014 by Brian Cohen

I tend to like reading the stories posted at Frugal Travel Guy authored by Christine Krzyszton — and the article pertaining to what to do in England instead of going to London is no exception...but I would like to amend that list — as well as simultaneously start writing and posting trip reports occasionally here at The Gate. I personally would include Dover, Stonehenge and Avebury. I plan on writing short trip reports about those places in the future. I have a passion for travel — always have — and one problem with weblogs these days is that...
