Pre-arrival/Arrival

As usual I was in touch with the hotel before arrival to arrange arrival pick up, plan dinners and take care of in room preferences and the Four Seasons team did their very best to take care of everything. Their list of recommended restaurants was very extensive and we found lots of good recommendations there.
We arrived with plane from Hangzhou and were met just outside the plane by a lady who escorted us through customs. By the luggage belt a porter was waiting as well to make sure that all our suitcases was being brought to the awaiting car.
Following the short drive we were taken directly to our suite where the check in was organised.
In the suite a welcome amenity was waiting for our son and just after arrival welcome tea was brought as well.

Location

The Four Seasons is very conveniently located at the Hong Kong Island with fantastic views from the rooms across the harbour.

Accomodation

We had booked a grand harbour view suite (used to be called executive suite) and requested a high floor. I was very happy when the gentleman who escorted us to the suite pressed level 43, the highest possible floor for this kind of suite. The view was amazing and I loved just sitting in the room to look outside.
The suite has a living room with sofa, chairs and a table plus a dining table. There was a separate powder room as well. Our son’s bed was put in this living room which did not really fit in design wise (sofa being “hidden” behind the bed, one chair had to be taken away for space reasons), meaning that we did not use this room a lot.
Going through a sliding door from the living room, we came to the very spacious bedroom. This room consisted of the perfect bed, a writing desk, two chairs and a little table and entrances to the wardrobe and bathroom. Bathroom had separate shower and toilet, double vanities and a bathtub with view (and the suite’s third TV).

Service

The hotel is very large and more of a business hotel meaning we did not feel that we were recognized every time we entered the lobby after some hours out, but this level of personal recognition was definitely there in the Executive Club where we felt very much “at home”.

I had been in touch with the GM around booking time. In the meantime he had left this hotel and the position taken over by the new GM (ex FS NYC) Christoph Schmidinger. Mr. Schmidiger made sure to contact us during our stay to introduce himself and make sure everything was according to our wishes. We really appreciated this.
We were also very spoiled with regards to suite amenities. Every afternoon there were new sweets and juices for our son and tea, cookies etc. for us. Only „complaint“ – and it is really stupid to complain about something like this – would be that the complimentary bottle of champagne that we received with a nice card, was delivered only the last evening, meaning that we could not finish it. I would have loved getting this bottle the first evening instead to enjoy one glass every evening during the stay.

Housekeeping was absolutely perfect.

Restaurants and bars

We had one lunch in the 3 star Michelin restaurant Lung King Heen which was excellent. We tried their set lunch menu which was very good and great value. We also had a lunch at the pool restaurant which was perfectly OK and just what we needed.
In addition we had all breakfasts, some times tea and a couple of evening light meals in the executive club, or just went there for a glass of champagne. Food was beautifully presented, delicious and varied, service excellent and the view fantastic as well. You could, if you would want to, just eat here all the time, but that would of course be a pity since Hong Kong offers so many other great restaurants to try.

Pool

After days with autumn temperatures in Shanghai and Hangzhou, we had looked forward to spending quite some time around the beautiful pool at FS Hong Kong enjoying the warmer climate of this city. Unfortunately the weather was windy and cloudy and when the sun was out, it was often hidden behind one of the high-rise buildings, so in spite of the quite high temperature, it was too cold for pool time.
However, the hours we got to enjoy there, were very good. Great service, comfortable loungers, drinks service, lots of little complimentary treats and several pools with different water temperatures and under-water music (!) were very enjoyable.

Activities

We spent 5 nights in Hong Kong and this was much more than enough for us to enjoy the sights of the city that we wanted to see. In fact, we felt that a long day would have been sufficient for us for sightseeing (Hong Kong Peak, Hong Kong Park, Star Ferry, Kowloon a couple of traditional and touristy markets and two or three temples). In addition there is of course endless shopping opportunities and malls, but if you do not want to go shopping, you do not need that many nights in this city. Of course there is the opportunity to visit nearby islands, but after several days of sightseeing in Shanghai and Hangzhou, we did not feel like more travelling.
