Check In

I was staying in another hotel in Beijing prior to Conrad Beijing. I took a taxi to Conrad, arriving around 14:00. Check-in agent told me that I had been upgraded from Executive Corner Room to Executive Suite (yay), but my room was not ready yet (boo). I was taken to the Executive Lounge, where I waited for slightly more than an hour (I was given code to wifi), sipping coffee and working. Around 15:15 a staff member came to inform me that my room was ready.

Room

I had never stayed at Executive Suite before, it was huge, although felt a bit like a labyrinth. Everything looked very nice, though! Some photos tell the story better.

Service

Service was mostly good, although occasionally some of the younger members of the staff were not completely fluent in English.

On my last morning I was on the way to the EL for breakfast and checking out. A few centimeters away from 29th floor the elevator car suddenly jerked to a stop, and I was stuck. I tried to push different buttons, waited for a few minutes, but nothing happened. I then pushed the alarm, and pretty soon someone answered. I explained my situation, there was a brief silence, and then someone else came on, and answered in English. I explained my situation again. He asked me to wait for a while, and pretty soon someone (actually one of the lounge staff) was knocking on the door and asking if everything was fine. He said a technician was on his way. After a few more minutes the doors started to open, as technician pried the doors open. I stepped out, and the member of lounge staff apologized profusely. Ah well, stuff happens. I was in the elevator for under 15 minutes.

Dining

I had breakfast one morning in the restaurant and one morning in the EL. Breakfast buffet in the restaurant was reasonable, and you get one item from the menu as well (I took the waffles). However, I am not big fan of the physical setup, different dishes are on separate shelves and somehow everything seemed very crowed all the time.

EL breakfast was not as diverse, but I appreciated the relative peace and quiet.

Happy hour at the EL was reasonable, although the wines were not very good. One could make a small dinner out of the food offerings. Some Chinese and some Western foods, nice selection of pastries etc.

Pool

One of the strengths of this hotel (for me) is the excellent 25-meter pool. Over the years I've used it often, there has never been more than one other person in the pool, usually it's empty...
