This was our first trip to Venice so we really did not know what to expect. We were really just going to see the place for the first time and kind of figure the place out. Due to a recent sale the rate at this place was very low so I couldn’t pass up the option, despite its less than central location.

My communication with the hotel on travel options etc before arrival was all good. I decided to use the hotel shuttle which was 14Euros per room and seemed like good value so we booked it. Despite our late arrival due to late flight the hotel driver was waiting outside with a sign with our name on it just as promised. I wasn’t able to call and tell them of our delayed flight so they obviously monitored it well. I think the drive to the hotel was about 15 minutes or so.

Upon arrival there was checked in by a very helpful agent and was informed to just give my room number for gold breakfast and they had slips already printed out at the front desk for everyone to just grab as they checked in. A friendly and positive experience at check-in and every encounter I had with the front desk was positive and helpful.

The room was on the 5th floor (out of 6) but near the elevator so the hotel obviously doesn’t really look at the preferences of Hilton Honors members so you may want to do online check-in. We were not in our room much so the location did not put us out much. I thought the room was clean, relatively modern and well laid out. For those of you not familiar with the Hilton Garden Inn bed, you can adjust the firmness with a dial on the side of the bed.

We dined at the restaurant a couple of times and had drinks about every night during out four night stay at the front hotel lobby bar. The lobby bar is well decorated and while it looks nice the seats aren’t that comfortable but the service was good there at all times. The food menu is pretty limited at the lobby bar though and they will not bring anything off the restaurant menu to the lobby bar which I find silly. Our dinners at the restaurant were fine as far as food quality and service but the variety and prices could be better. The prices are understood since you have like zero choices in the area but it would be nice to have a few more choices. Also, the restaurant wasn’t very flexible either. My wife want to add some items to her past and actually pay for the addition but it wasn’t possible. Sorry for trying to give you more of our money. The other thing we found annoying with food at the hotel is that the restaurant closes at 14.30 so there isn’t anything until the lobby bar opens with its very limited menu at 17.30 and you have the restaurant at 19.30. If you are going to be in a relatively remote area with nothing else around, it would be nice to have more than the frozen food in the pantry during those hours for people who arrive at 14.31 and really hungry as we did. The dining area was actually very nice for a Hilton Garden Inn. Breakfast was quite good in terms of quality, variety and service. You can get cooked to order eggs and cappuccino/espresso if you like. I recommend getting a cappuccino as the coffee they hand out is horrible.

We actually didn’t mind the location at all. You have two bus options into Venice, the number 5 and 19 which with Venice being about ten minutes and two stops away (tickets can be purchased at hotel). The price for the bus was 1.50Euros per person each way. For the price, I will take that minor inconvenience any day. We checked out the other Hilton hotel and didn’t really like that location any better to be honest. It was a nice hotel from what we could see but the location looked too be problematic but being on a waterway is an obvious nice feature of course.

Honestly, we loved Venice and would not have a problem staying at this property at all in the future if the rate is right. I know this property would not be for everyone so you just need to know what you like in a property. If you are willing to sacrifice location this is a good option as we found it to be a nice hotel, with good service and location to not really be as bad as we thought it would be as far as distance from Venice.
