Stats

Located in the hills north of Malibu, Four Seasons Westlake Village offers a setting suitable for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel is located close to a number of large corporate offices, while leisure travelers come to the Four Seasons to visit its associated Health and Longevity Institute or enjoy a spa weekend at the hotel's 41,000 square foot Spa. This hotel boasts the largest Four Seasons spa in the world with 28 treatment rooms.

The hotel is owned by the Murdoch Corporation, which until recently owned the two Four Seasons resorts on Lanai. The common design features it shares with those two resorts is striking — especially the Lodge at Koele. Floral draperies and Chinese porcelain accent pieces in the guestrooms bring the Lodge to mind. And if you had any doubt of the design lineage, the Pagoda and pond in the resort’s back yard make the connection inescapable!

I had heard good things about the restaurant at Westlake Village, and given the hotel’s emphasis on health and wellness, I anticipated healthy choices. I was not disappointed! We enjoyed a great lunch in the hotel's restaurant — salmon salad with a perfectly prepared salmon steak, moist in the middle and seared to crusty perfection on the outside. Afterwards, we were shown a range of guest rooms.

Room

Lead-in Deluxe rooms (and upgraded Waterfall View Deluxe rooms) are 450 square feet and attractive. Bathrooms have single vanities, a soaking tub, step-in shower, and WC. Theses rooms come in one of two color schemes — blue/yellow or cranberry/yellow — both of which I found attractive. Waterfall View rooms face the hotel's trademark waterfall. Upgrades are fairly frequent into waterfall rooms, and the hotel will confirm an upgrade at booking for FSPP guests if possible. However, you may want to spring for the slight price increment and book a Waterfall room, as this sets you up for an upgrade to the significantly larger Studio Room. There are 12 Studio rooms, extremely spacious Junior Suites with an open floor plan. Although none of the Studios have a waterfall view (they face the hotel's porte couchere), the added space may well appeal to many guests, especially if you value space over view. Studio rooms have a pull-out sofabed, so this would be a good choice for families.

Superior 1 BR Suites are even more spacious at 850 sq ft with hardwood floors, attractive area carpeting, and a powder room in addition to a full bathroom. Doors can close off the bedroom and living space in these suites. Accommodations in this category and up come with dual vanities.

There are two Waterfall Suites in the hotel. Located on the hotel’s top floor, have high ceilings, these Suites look down over the hotel’s signature waterfall. Because there are only two Waterfall Suites, it would be difficult upgrade to get upgraded into these suites.

Finally, we saw a Deluxe 1 BR Suite, very large at 1200 square feet. There are 10 of these corner suites decorated in the hotel's blue/yellow interior scheme, though none of them have a waterfall view.

Amenities

As mentioned above, the hotel has the largest Four Seasons spa in the world, an extensive fitness facility, an adults-only outside heated pool, and an indoor pool for guests of all ages (covered by a glass roof that makes the space light and bright).
