Our first time at a true Hyatt resort - one with a good beach, multiple pools, and more!

Check In

We flew into John Wayne airport and took Uber to the hotel, be warned that it can be quite expensive - over $70 for us.

We knew before we left that we were upgraded to an even better suite - we had booked the room using a suite upgrade award.  We knew the room might not be avalible until 4pm.  Since we were early we were given a card to access the pool and we went and spent about 2 hours at the resturant by the pool to wait for the room.

Room

The room is huge!

Past the double doors there is a long hall way, a good size bathroom is the door to the left in this picture.

Here it is, there is no shower but it's very nice size.

Around the bend at the end of the hallway is the living room:

Another view of the living area, this is a great space to relax in.  We're on the 2nd floor so there are shutters on the windows.  This helped keep the amount of light down.  The balcony is quite good size and there are large plants providing privacy from the pool area.

The king sized bed in the large bed room is nice, this is one of the larger bedrooms in any suite we've been in.

The primary bathroom is quite large, seperate shower to the left and the toilet is in it's own water closet without a door.  The shower head is fairly low - lower then I expected but otherwise it's a fine bathroom.

Overall it was a great room to spend 6 nights in.

Service

Service was great - you can select how often you want to have housekeeping.  They will only service your room when you are not present.  I was able to call housekeeping in the morning around 8:30 before heading out - learned they start the service at 8:30 and came and cleaned our room before we were back about 2 hours later.  That's exactly the type of service I think anyone would want.

Dining

We ate at 4 of the resturants on site, there was one more by the pool aimed for kids.

Watertable is the place where Breakfast is served as well as dinner.  Our first night we ate there.

The bread is amazing, and this was the Stone Fruit Salad:

This salad was pretty darn good, the stone fruit that appears will depend upon what they are getting from the local farms they source from.

Mushroom & Cauliflower

This was my wife's dish - she thought it had far too much spinich for a dish without spinich in the name.

I got Salmon,  I asked for medium rare - but they appearantly can't serve salmon that way so it was dry.  The sauce was good and mostly made up for it - they gave me more at no extra cost.

We got drinks, I asked for a cusom Negroni once the waiter told me there was a mixologist - it was an amazing variation on a Negroni.

So it was a decent meal but not as good as we expected, we did go back and I'll talk about that later.

There is a mall close by - basically have to walk past the Hilton next door and your there.  We went there Monday for dinner, lots of options.

Tuesday we tried the Pizza at Tower 15 Pizzeria which is good pizza.

Surf City Grocers has ice cream by the scoop - 1 or 2, just be aware they are HUGE scoops.

Wednesday we made reservations for Pete's Sunset Grille

I had fish tacos and they were quite good.  The drinks at Pete come in neat glasses

Thursday we went back to Watertable since I wanted to try the buger.  And a chance to try another custom Negroni, this time it's more herbal and this was an even better drink IMO:

My wife ordered soup and a starter - this is the strawberry, corn, ricotta.  She enjoyed it.

I ordered the other salad I had my eye on, this is the berry salad and it was dynamite.  I liked it even more then the stone fruit salad.

I then had the watertable burger which comes with truffle aioli, arugula, muenster, port onion jam and on the side was  house cut fries with jalapeño dip (Ranch base).  It was cooked to order and very very good.

We returned to Pete's on Friday night, This was what my Mai Tai came in:

And here is the Poke Bowl - which I ordered after reading reviews of the resturant where folks said it was really good.  And they were right - this dish is SO good.

We'd reccomend Petes to anyone staying here, note it's hours can vary due to staffing shortages.

Later Friday night we went back to watertable to try another dessert since Pete's only had 3 options and we tried the one we wanted.  This was Pistachio Mousse and it was very tasty.  I was hoping to get another crazy drink, but unfortinetly the mixologist was off Friday night.

For breakfast each day we at at Watertable, no pictures but as globalist and a part of 2 you can spend up to 72 including grattuity which should be the cost of 2 people doing the buffet.

It's a typical Hyatt Regency Buffet - no omlet option so we never tried it.  The entree prices are about what youd expect and under $20 for most, but addons can push it way higher.  Single items like toast and eggs when added on are $5 each.  The most annoying thing was how Watertable would add on a gratuity fee to the bill for a few dollars.  This happened when the amount was way below $72 and the tip was either blank (was told a default of 18% would be added) or my own write in amount was present.  The Front desk comped it all - note if they removed it it would get added back in.  So keep that in mind if you stay here as a gloablist while the regency club is closed.

Location

The resort is about 30 mins from John Wayne aport. It's 1 mile from main street of Huntington beach which is where a long pier is located.

Pacific City - a mall is located pretty close - have to walk past the Hilton and it's there.

There is a walmart grocery store within walking distance as well and there are other resturants around it.

There is a noisy highway right in front of the Resort.  A pedestrian bridge allows easy access to the beach.  The Hyatt provides umbrellas and chairs at the end of this bridge.

The ocean is a cold current and tons of breaking waves

Back at the resort there are different fountains which are good to help orrient ones self, here's the 16 fish fountain:

The resort is quite large.  There are multiple pools and one side there are water slides.

Overall

This was our first time at a Real Hyatt Resort.

It was kinda a trial to see what we thought of going someplace and spending a week at a beach / pool etc.  We've spent a few days at a Grand Hyatt in Rio at the end of a cruise, it had a better pool since it was newer, but it was FAR smaller and didn't have a good beech acorss from the hotel.

The biggest negative for this hotel was the presence of the highway and how many LOUD vehciles drive down it - it never affected our sleeping but it does affect the tranqulity.  I'm guessing that's why Hyatt has so many really remote resorts.

We're going to try a Hyatt all-inclusive next.    Overall it was a fun time.
