Eichardt's has the ultimate location in the heart of Queenstown - directly off the lake (but across the street). The boutique property has just 10 rooms - 5 suites in the main building, 4 apartments, and 1 private villa named The Residence. The building for the hotel was built in 1859 as a private residence, but was soon turned into a hotel.

Eichardt's is the best for luxury when staying in Queenstown itself. I found the property a wonderful change from being in the luxury lodges. I loved the lodges, but it was nice to be in town again for a little bit. The property is walking distance to everything and you cannot beat the location. The rate includes breakfast, but not an evening meal. The property does host meals on occasion, if someone is interested. They sell out quickly as the guest list remains intimate.

I stayed in the main building. All five suites are upstairs with the bar and parlour downstairs. The rooms where quite large and the beds were one of my favorites of my stay.

My room had a little entry way in which you walked in, turned left, and were then in the living area.

The bathroom was rather hard to photograph. The shower and soaking tub are stand alone. The closet and minibar are accessible through the bathroom as well.



Marble was featured throughout and a nice compliment to the timber features elsewhere in the room. The toiletries were Molton Brown.

We did a quick tour of the apartments. They are not in the same building, but the block next to it. They are great for families and have a washer/dryer.

As you can tell from the pictures, the design inside the apartments compared to the suites is much different. The building for the apartments is much newer, where the suites are in a historic building.

I loved Eichardt's. I can't wait to stay at it again. The staff does a great job, the breakfast was fantastic, the bed provided one of my best nights of sleep on the trip, and the parlour is great for drinks. With the property being in Queenstown, it is a great base for all the activities in the area.

The Spire is another boutique, luxury offering in Queenstown that shares owners with Eichardt's. It is more of a value offering and a great place if Eichardt's is not available or budget doesn't allow. Spire is a few blocks "up" or away from the water of Eichardt's. Where Eichardt's has rich colors with timber and stone features, Spire is contemporary and stylish. It has 10 rooms total and has fantastic New Zealand art hand picked and featured throughout the property.
