King One BD Suite

Recently converted Doubletree Suites in Rancho Cordova near Sacramento, CA. Totally renovated, rooms are like new.

Check In

Check in was smooth and efficient. Friendly staff gave us our cookies, water, and breakfast coupons.

I did not use OLCI because a floorplan was not available, just room numbers, and I was unfamiliar with the layout. The hotel is somewhat spread out and a bit of a maze to get to the room with at least three different sets of elevators. After a couple of trips to/from the room you get the hang of it.

Room

All rooms are suites with a separate living area and bedroom. We were in a king suite, which was pretty good sized. HVAC worked well (at least from a heating standpoint), and we were able to control the room temp to our liking.

Living area had a work desk, large TV, sofa (I think it was a sofa bed), mini-fridge, and coffee/tea machine.

The bedroom area was a little tight, but not as bad as some all-suite hotels. Very comfortable bed and lots of drawer space. Large TV and many plugs available.

Sink/vanity was located between living area and bedroom with toilet and bath/shower combo in a separate closed area. I like this set-up as it makes the bathroom less crowded.

Overall the room was fairly spacious, well decorated, and had a brand-new look. Furnishings and fixtures had a quality feel to them.

The only downside we experienced was the in-room safe, which was unbolted at the bottom of the closet. So it would have been quite easy for someone to just walk-off with it. Also, the one in our room was locked when we got there, and, despite a couple of calls down to the FD, we were not able to get it opened.

Service

No issues with service. We had asked them to de-feather the room and this was done before we checked in. After we got to the room, the FD called to confirm that it had been done, which was appreciated.

Dining

Had breakfast both mornings of a two-night stay. Breakfast coupons covered one entree from the menu. The menu had several good selections and the food was tasty. Service at breakfast was friendly and efficient.

The menu shows an option for full Breakfast Bar and continental Breakfast Bar, but it was not available. Probably because it was over the Christmas weekend and occupancy was low. I'm guessing they have not actually implemented the Breakfast Bar yet, as the hotel has only been open for a couple of weeks. I'll be interested to see if they provide Gold/Diamonds with the option of choosing the buffet once they get it going. If they do, I hope it's for the full buffet.

Restaurant was open for dinner (and maybe lunch), but we did not try it.

Location

Hotel used to be the Hyatt House and more recently the Sunrise Hotel. It's located behind the Marriott, off Folsom Blvd at corner of Sunrise.

Parking

Parking was ample and free.

Overall

Enjoyed the two-night stay. Hotel is near the freeway, but we didn't notice a lot of freeway noise. Our room was overlooking the pool area, which wasn't an issue this trip, but I'd guess it could get noisy.

We'll definitely be staying there again.
