Stats

On our finaly night on Kok Samui we checked out of Cape Fahn and headed to the HR. I had a free night certificate that was expiring and wanted to check out the property.

I don't usually stay at HRs, rather PHs, so had rather low expectations but was rather pleasantly surprised.

Check In

The entrance from the road is rather deceiving as its very narrow but once you exit the car you are met with an ultra moden lobby with neon lights, an installation to hear the sounds of shells that one would expect in a museum and all White interior.

There are two check in desks and a concierge desk. The front desk staff did a great job of explaining everything about the hotel. During check in, the GM came to greet us. He remembered us from a stay at the PH Maldives a decade ago!

We were upgraded from a base room to a Regency Suite. It didn't have Ocean listed in the name so I was a little concerned, but waited to see what it was like. We were walked to the room that was in the next building.

Room

Not expecting an Ocean view, I was suprised that the room does, in fact, have Ocean views, they are just not as close to the water as the other buildings.

The suite felt absolutely brand new, tastefully designed, lots of space and very airy as you would expect from a Seaside resort. Again, I was rather shocked because I had a low expectations and immediately said to my partner "I would definitely stay here the next time we visit Koh Samui."

We had a Welcome card, Sparkling water, some fresh fruit and Macaroons. Some higher class properties fail to provide welcome amenities and it is a small touch that leaves a big impression.

The balcony was large and you could hear the Ocean while sitting on it.

Service

We went for a walk around the property which actually isn't that big, but well laid out. There were a series of pools, restaurants and the beach. While at the beach we ran into the GM and I remaked that I was very impressed and thought it would be more of a GH than a HR.

There is a cocktail bar by the beach which seemed to have a Happy Hour and beside that the Regency Club.

All of the staff we interacted with were delightful and very proud of their new property,

Dining

The Regency Club was nothing short of specatacular. Two Chefs were stationed to serve you a Thai Noodle Curry and another dish that I don't recall alongside Canapes, Salads and Desserts.

The meals were substantial and I went back for a second round.

The Club has indoor and outdoor seating and we sat outside with Ocean views. The only note was that the only alcohol on offer was Beer, Red, White and Sparkling Wine. We prefer Cocktails, but made a Mimosa which was fine.

Overall

Overall, despite mainly staying in luxury hotels I was very surprised at this property.

It felt like a W when they first opened and the aspect, rooms and club lounge were all stand outs. Every aspect of the resort has been architecturally designed and is well laid out that it never felt busy. We left before breakfast but have booked a future stay in a few months.

It's a great addition to the Hyatt portfolio and much, much better that the HR Phuket.

Will definitely return.
