Executive Club

A top choice in Bangkok - this hotel looks like it's nearly new, despite having decades of experience under it's belt.

I would love to return to this hotel again!

Check In

After arriving at the front desk, I was shortly after recognied as a Platinum SPG member and escorted to the Club Lounge to complete my check-in, by very friendly and pleasant staff.  Although I can occasionally appreciate that for some hotels, in this case it just meant a longer elevator ride after 24-hours in transit, and sitting in a chair with a bottle of water.

Sometimes, I would like to be given the option of being checked in at the front desk, to save time and let me get to my room to relax faster!

I was upgraded to an Executive Club room, staying on C&P, originally booked in a Traditional room.

Room

I was upgraded to an Executive Club room, one of the xx17 corner rooms facing the river.  What a view!  I was mesmerized by watching the activity on the river from both the sitting room as well as the bed - which ends up facing the river windows as well for a breathtaking sunset.

The rooms were spacious and luxurious - a great place to stay!

Location

The hotel also offers a free shuttle boat between the hotel and the closest train station, in a luxurious boat with cold towels and water after a warm day.

It’s also adjacent to the water taxi line, for those looking to take a trip along to river, or to one of the historical landmarks surrounding the hotel.

For other travel options, I recommend using a taxi hailed by the hotel - there are numerous concerns of "hot taxis" in Bangkok, and in fact I didn't realize it until my return ride to the airport that I'd been ripped off on my trip to the hotel (which was over 2x the price of my return trip to the airport).  The hotel will ensure that you have a good driver who knows where you are going, know the estimated fare, and also document the number of the cab in case you run into any other issues.

Club Lounge

The Club Lounge also has a great view, with a wide selection of breakfast options for all visitors from the East and West.  It included both a sitting area facing the river, as well as dining tables along the side - but also angled to allow you to watch the river.  I was once again mesemerized, spending a long breakfast here just watching the activity on the river.

Pool

On the 1st floor you can access two pools - the Terrace Pool which has several lounging chairs around it to enjoy the weather and watch the river, and the Garden Pool, which is part of the Portuguese Embassy.

The Garden Pool is in a more secluded area, has a larger pool with a swim-up bar, and also has a running track around the garden, with lots of peacocks on the grounds.

Gym

There is a nice gym beside the Terrace Pool, which has several cardio machines to allow you to watch the pool and the river.  It's a standard Sheraton gym, with several cardio and weight machines; nothing too substantial but enough to keep in shape.

As I mentioned, there is also a running track next to the Garden Pool, as well.
