I'm visiting Antequera, Spain in about 3 weeks. Joining my brother and sister-in-law. My brother has rented a house there.
Does the town have a public bus system?
I can see the little electric tourist bus, but haven't been able to find a more general one. Yet I can't imagine even a small European city not having some sort of public transportation. Population is a little over 40k.
I've searched the web as best I can. Hope somebody can help me.
Thank you,
Romelle

There's an informative page here with a run down of the different routes into and out of Antequera and the different bus companies that run them
http://planetaantequera.blogspot.co....antequera.html
It's not clear from your post what sort of information you are after, whether you want to get to Antequara by bus from another area/district or whether you just want to get around within this town.
If it's internal buses you want info on there's another run down here: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transpo...o_de_Antequera
Which basically describes three bus lines run by the Grupo Vera company.
This same private company also runs Automoviles Casado which as you can see comes up in the first link as they provide the bulk of the inter city bus routes.

I couldn't see any updates for this year on the turismo.antequera.es website. Ordinarily I'd suggest mailing them and requesting a copy but the 'contact us' form doesn't work, at least not with my iPad

There were two email addresses on the site you posted above. I tried emailing both, asking for bus routes and schedules. The address in the right-hand corner didn't work, but the one in the left-hand corner went through. I'll post back if I get any results. Also, I have a couple guesses about typos on the bad one, so will try that again if I don't get any results from the good address.
The information you provided has reassured me there are indeed local city buses there. If I don't smoke out anything via email, I'll head for the tourist information place when I get there.
Thank you again!

Have fun! I'll be back in Alicante from the 13th June, let me know if you need anything translated into English before then, I'll be happy to help.

We spent a full day exploring Antequera and I do not recall seeing any buses. The bus that runs from Malaga stops outside the town IIRC. The town isn't that big and it's pretty easy to see on foot.

Thank you, sparkchaser. My brother got a note from the people from whom we are renting the house. They mentioned shuttle buses. Maybe the bus lines are served by vehicles that don't look very bus-like.
My brother is planning to rent a car, but I'm just trying to keep my options open.
I will post my findings here.

This is what the bus on the L1 line (between Veronica and Hospital) looked like last year
http://www.antequerahoy.es/files/pos...846_412263.jpg
This is a different route to the one I posted the time table for (L3) between the bus station and Santa Ana. L1 is the main Bus service for Antequera as it carries the most passengers
It's old information but the L1 line back in 2006 ran every half hour until 3:15pm and then hourly.
For the L2 there was a 45 minute wait between buses (frequency having been increased as it was originally a bus an hour)
Source: http://www.diariosur.es/pg060207/pre...R-INT-060.html
The main polemic now (or from late last year) is that the local authorities haven't been paying the Protomed-10 company which runs the buses the agreed annual subsidy for several years. This amount owed is now over half a million Euros. In protest, the private transport company hasn't spent any money on maintaining the bus station or the vehicles.

Apart from the odd strike, I've not seen any sign that the services themselves have been affected but there's no guarantee that they won't be when you're there.
