Just wondering if it is possible to allocate different FF numbers for each segment on a single booking. For example, I want to get miles on VA for one leg and then UA on another. Can I assign that before hand or is it best to leave out any FF number and try to get the miles retroactivley using boarding passes?

Also when the BP are issued look very carefully at them and have them adjusted immediately if they are wrong.

Easiest way is probably to assign the FF number you want for your first segment to your whole booking and then for the segment(s) where you want a different number, either change it at check-in or at the gate.

I recently booked a ticket with mixed alliances (mostly *A but also OneWorld on the ticket) via Expedia and it let me choose the FF programme for each leg. My experience is that booking via Expedia offers most of the options which previously required use of a travel agent, e.g. seat requests (in cases where the airline doesn't normally offer them for online bookings).
