Miles for Nothing
 

Does anyone know of ways to earn miles without spending any money. No credit cards, or purchase links. It doesn't matter how few miles. I have found one way, with erewards. But I am curious if anyone knows other creative ways. Thanks!

Sure, break your foot onboard, sabotage ICE, cause the aircraft to be switched to a non-A380, give the Chauffeur the wrong address then claim he didn't turn up, have someone steal your seat, and then send a complaint to Customer Services.

Is erewards a good way to earn miles. I'm skeptical on anything that is free.

The first time or two you can get some pretty good points but it quickly dries up and is extremely not worthwhile... I gave up a while back.

There are often promotions that give you miles for:
1. Signing up to receive AA marketing emails.
2. Signing up for the AA eshoping emails.
3. Watching a Bose headphone online ad.
Most of these are detailed in threads in the AA forum.

- Sign up for Flying Blue Golf, 250 miles [in my case they have never posted, but in theory they should!];
- Receive your statement by e-mail, 1000 miles;
- If you get asked to participate in an AF/KLM survey, number of miles vary;
- Incidentally AF/KLM will have prize contests, last one being with Hertz giving you the option to win 1.000.000 (?) miles and a few other small prizes.

for an immense amount of tedium, you can get 4000 + 3000 + 2500 + 1000 +250 + 100 + 500 miles.

We can probably can say this much: with six Frequent Flyer Programs, you will find yourself hard pressed - particularly with the trickle of miles from free sources - to ever use them. 30 miles or whatever from a quarterly or so opinionplace survey will take several lifetimes to count for much, never mind a 25,000 mile flight.

I suspect most here would agree that building up a "nest egg" of miles requires strategic thinking, and a bit of focus - difficult at best with six FFPs. You might want to think of a credit card, paid off monthly, dining with a FFP related dining program (AAdvantage Dining for AA, merely register, sign up for e-mails, register a debit or credit card, dine at affiliated restaurants, earn miles,) etc.

This thread will likely be allowed here, because you imply you are an AAdvantage member looking for ways of earning AAdvantage miles - but if you were merely shopping for a generous airline or general ideas, TravelBuzz! is a good forum for that kind of general discussion.

Free miles? Probably not what you are asking, but before I do just about anything, I check to see if I can get miles for it. I consider this "free" since I was going to do it anyway.

My best example was getting Lasik. I was going to do it. Searched and found that Delta gave 25k miles for a surgery (technically 5k for the free analysis and 20k for the surgery). I lucked out that it was through the same center that offered me 15% discount due to partnership with my eye insurance company.

Off the top of my head, things I would check for free miles before doing:

Opening a bank account
Changing cable/satellite provider
Opening an investment account
Getting a mortgage
Refinancing a mortgage
Getting any subscription service (Netflix, etc.)
Renting a Car
Buying a Car

Obviously bonus miles are the least of my worries in some of those items, but it never hurts to see if someone will give you miles to do what you were already going to do.
