As another data point, I did the exact same thing as this poster, and was
just approved online using the 2 browser trick for the:
* Citi Select® / AAdvantage® American Express® card (

* Citi® Gold / AAdvantage® World MasterCard® (

I figured I'd try the Gold, even though it was only a 30k mile bonus, since no one seems to be getting approved for the Platinum/40k one with the two browser trick. 30k > 0k/denial.
80k total for AA. Now, I just need to get Barclays to approve my US Air card...
