Thirty-Member Bachelor Party Grounded After Police Called to the Gate

This groom’s last chance to cut loose before saying “I do” never really took off thanks to some outlandish behavior at the airport.

Rather than memories of sun and revelry in the Spanish Isles, members of a bachelor party bound for Tenerife South Airport (TFS) on a Monarch Airlines flight on Monday were instead left clutching written citations and taking a long ride home from Manchester Airport (MAN). The 30-member entourage ran into trouble before even boarding their early morning flight after fellow flyers alerted police about the group’s reportedly over-the-top drunken antics at the gate.

“Police were called at around 5:45 a.m. to reports of a group of men causing a disturbance inside the terminal building,” a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told The Manchester Evening News. “They were asked to calm down by police but their continued behavior meant the captain of the plane took the decision to refuse the group permission to fly. Some who had managed to board the plane were removed from the flight before take-off. Two men were issued with warnings under the Public Order Act.”

Eyewitnesses told authorities that the allegedly intoxicated entourage used foul language and acted aggressively toward other travelers while waiting to board the flight. The fact the would-be-groom was wearing a wedding dress added a layer of absurdity to the scene at the terminal.

Monarch officials told reporters that the incident during boarding caused the flight to be delayed about 25 minutes. “Monarch takes a zero tolerance approach to disruptive behavior on board all of our flights,” the airline added. “The safety and security of our passengers, crew and aircraft is our absolute priority.”
