Marriott’s New Millennial-Friendly Hotel Brand Opens in Times Square

Travelers to New York City are getting their Moxy from the chain of Millennial-friendly hotels.
Visitors to Times Square in New York City will now have a new low-cost option for a hotel. Moxy, the hotel brand known for small rooms, tablet check-in, simple service, and low prices opens its new location on Monday. The property will have 612 rooms, two restaurants, three cocktail bars, a sandwich shop, and no front desks. It’s Marriott’s answer to Airbnb.
The chain is owned by Marriott International and is already well known around Europe; the first location opened in Milan in 2014, and now the brand is spreading its reach into the US.
“There are [already] 32 signed deals for Moxy in the U.S., including some of the most relevant cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, and Denver,” Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International, told CN Traveler. “Internationally, there are more than 60 approved Moxy Hotels deals.”
The hotel will be in a historic property on 36th Street and Seventh Avenue. Rooms will be posh, with plush king-sized beds, free wifi, custom-made furniture, rainfall showers, and more. Designer Yabu Pushelberg designed the rooms, and Rockwell Group handled the public areas.
“The target guest is not just defined by age but also attitude,” Sorenson told CN Traveler. “Take me, for instance: I’m 58, and I don’t need a desk in my hotel room. I like the flexibility of Moxy’s bedrooms.”
Room rates are expected to start at about $139.

Well, thank god for this - though, as a millennial, I hadn't even realized I wasn't welcome at any of Marriott's other brands. This whole "for millennials" marketing is just ridiculous. Aren't we the most diverse generation in American history? What makes all these executives think we all want the same thing?
Maybe as an author of front page and featured articles, we should learn to spell the word "millennial" correctly? Also, a hotel for millennials? Do they get a free protest sign and voucher for a free handout when they check in?
