Malaysia Airlines Flight Attendant Falls to Death in Apparent Suicide

Malaysia Airlines flight attendant Chong Nyuk Moi, 29, fell to her death from the fourth floor of her Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur apartment Monday evening. Police reportedly found a suicide note in Nyuk Moi’s room, and according to her housemate, the young flight attendant had been crying the day before her death and may have just exited a relationship.

Authorities believe Nyuk Moi fell during a heavy downpour, but there were no witnesses to the incident. Her body was classified as a Sudden Death and sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Agreed, this is not appropriate news for the website. It is a very tragic but private event and very remotely related to travel, the company was apparently not involved in any way at all. I do not think there is such a dearth of travel-related news that one has to resort to tabloid-style selection like this.

Having read some distasteful posts in many FT fora, this "Headline News" flash strikes me as setting the bottom line lower than ever. If the excuse of not only publishing an irrelevant posting of an acutely depressed young female, propably ending her own life, but publishing her photo with full name and also naming her employer. actually is that it's "travel related", I beg to differ. Just for a moment consider the unlucky event of one of your closest friend ending up like this; would you like to have his/her photo displayed on FT first page with the headline "Frequent flyer, prominent FlyerTalk poster Falls to Death in Apparent Suicide" together with full name and área of home town, maybe also stating the position of assistant Travel Manager for XYZ Inc.. Don't add insult to injury to her grieving relatives and friends. Please retract this posting.

This is not news really, it is travel to a point of no return. Sad news but not for FT.
