In Brief: Woman Says Air Canada Wrongfully Billed Her in U.S. Dollars, Hiking Fare by $1K

An Air Canada customer who allegedly flies with the airline often claims she was overcharged by around $1,000 for a recent trip to Athens, Greece. Maureen Gordon says when she booked her return flight to Toronto via the airline’s website, the total came in at about $3,000, so she was surprised to find she’d been billed closer to $4,000 upon checking her Visa bill after the trip.

Gordon claims the ordeal doesn’t make sense to her, but Air Canada said she booked her flight on their U.S. website as opposed to their Canadian website and the fare was quoted in U.S. dollars, not Canadian. Gordon, however, denies the airline’s explanation, saying she logged into the site the same was she always does.

“The site notifies customers three times during the course of the booking process that the fare is quoted in U.S. dollars,” said Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick. “The customer did not pay more than she would have booking on the Canadian site.”
