How to Survive the Summertime Airport Experience

In order to make a traveling experience easier and less stressful, here are a few tips to get through airports unscathed during this busy vacation season.

Summer is usually the peak season for travel, and the experience of passing through airports and traveling abroad can be quite stressful. In order to make the entire experience a little less stressful, The Telegraph has come up with a list of tips of for navigating the airport.

The experience starts when passengers are still buying their tickets. According to The Telegraph, it is always better to avoid weekends and search for fares during the week because airports tend to be less crowded and the tickets might even be cheaper. Departing from smaller airports can help, too, as those don’t tend to be as busy as major airports such as LAX, Atlanta and JFK.

The check-in part of the process has been thoroughly expedited in recent years. Passengers have been able to print out boarding passes at home in order avoid the long lines at the check-in counter, and not having any checked baggage can speed up the process as well. However, if passengers check baggage and print boarding passes at home, the luggage can be dropped off more quickly.

Going through security can be time-consuming and stressful, but there are airports now in the United States that offer a fast-track line to get through security such as LAX, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Miami and Las Vegas. If passengers have a long connection or a flight is delayed, there are also several amenities at airports, like lounges and services that actually allows guests to take a nap.

Lastly, passengers should try to board last and disembark first so that they will spend less time in lines and get to immigration first while you are traveling to another country.

I try to board first these days (through premier status). It means I am more likely to get overhead space and not have to gate-check a bag. That way I am not standing in a line and get to settle in before we take off (and enjoy a PDB if in business or first). I do try to sit as close to the front as I can to get off as fast as I can.
