787’s Engine Shuts Down Over Atlantic

An Ethiopian Airlines flight made an emergency landing Friday after one its engines shut down over the Atlantic Ocean. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 300 people, was en route from Dublin Airport (DUB) to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) when it encountered problems.

“We took off and they were serving food about an hour into the flight. Then the flight map showed that they had turned back east and the updated arrival time was just an hour away,” said passenger Ben Grossman-Cohen. “Then they told us there was a minor technical issue and they were returning to Dublin to address it and they’d update us later.”

The pilot declared an emergency and the flight landed safely at DUB, where it was met by emergencies services. No injuries were reported. According to a DUB representative, the aircraft in question is undergoing inspection.
