Controversial Phoenix Tax Cuts Will Benefit Airlines

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed a piece of legislation Thursday that will benefit airlines, particularly American  Airlines and Southwest Airlines, though it may have a negative effect on Phoenix’s economy. According to SFGate, the legislation “will cap the amount of jet fuel Phoenix is allowed to tax for each large carrier, costing the city about $2 million a year.”

Among those opposing the bill was Phoenix lobbyist Barry Aarons who argued that the move will make it more difficult to keep up maintenance at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
