Beijing to Build World’s Biggest Airport

Beijing has announced that it will open the world’s largest airport by 2019.

It will be located roughly 28 miles from the Beijing city center in China’s Daxing district and take some of the burden off of Beijing Capital International Airport, which has struggled to keep up with increasing travel demands for the region.

The airport will be home to both China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines and have an initial capacity of 45 million travelers per year and a maximum capacity of 100 million passengers per year once the project is complete.

In total, the project is expected to cost between 12 and 15.5 billion dollars (80 billion yuan).
