Air Canada Flight Lands at LHR Minus a Wheel

On Monday, a Boeing 777-300 operated by Air Canada landed safely on the runway at Heathrow Airport (LHR) after a tire snapped off from the aircraft shortly after takeoff from Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL). The pilot made the landing without any difficulty and was only made aware of the missing wheel after the fact by LHR airport workers. Additional damage to the aircraft’s suspension was reported.

A330-300, actually - AC 864 on 4/16. Both The Sun and the Daily Mail got the type wrong, but The Sun article has a picture of the damage, and it's a 4-wheel carriage, not a 6. Nice job by the crew, but this was hardly the near disaster that the tabloids made it out to be. I'd have been more worried about someone on the ground at YUL getting hit by that tire!
