Earn Aeroplan Miles By Earning Your Wings and Badges With Air Canada — And a Chance to Win Aeroplan Miles Too

Earn Aeroplan frequent flier loyalty program miles by earning and collecting wings and badges — and if you rank amongst the top 25 participants in terms of the total number of wings you have earned during this promotion, you will receive an additional 400,000 Aeroplan frequent flier loyalty program miles, as 10,000,000 bonus Aeroplan frequent flier loyalty program miles will be distributed equally amongst the top 25 participants.

According to the terms and conditions of this promotion, any combination of wings and badges that total 2,000 wings will receive 1,000 bonus Aeroplan frequent flier loyalty program miles. Any combination of wings and badges for a total of 10,000 wings will receive an additional 5,000 bonus Aeroplan frequent flier loyalty program miles, for a combined total of 10,000 bonus Aeroplan frequent flier loyalty program miles.

Earn wings simply by flying as a passenger on Air Canada flights anywhere in the world and earn a minimum of 100 wings. However, you can earn wings more quickly by collecting badges. There are three types of badges:

  1. Destination badges. Each of the 33 different destination badges are earned when a certain location is either the origination or destination of your flight. For example, earn a BOS destination badge when your flight originates or terminates at Logan International Airport in Boston — and that BOS destination badge will earn you 1,000 wings. You can earn between 500 and 2,000 wings with destination badges — depending on the destination, of course.
  2. Premium badges. Each of the 19 different premium badges earn 5,000 wings — and they are earned either on certain flight routes or when certain locations are either the origination or destination of your flight. For example, earn a TCA premium badge when you are a passenger on a flight between Vancouver and Seattle. This premium badge commemorates the first route by Trans-Canada Airlines — the predecessor of Air Canada — in 1937.
  3. Social Media badge. The only requirement to earn your 200 wings by collecting this badge is to simply share your Leaderboard ranking with your friends on facebook or twitter. This badge can only be earned once.

The Terms and Conditions for this promotion state that although the Social Media badge can only be earned once, the Destination badges and Premium badges can be earned more than one time. This is unclear to me, as I do not know whether or not this means that the same specific Destination badge or specific Premium badge may be earned more than one time.

You must register for this promotion and be an Aeroplan frequent flier loyalty program member to be eligible to earn wings and badges. You must also travel between now and June 16, 2013 on select eligible published fare classes — however, flights booked before April 11, 2013 are not eligible for this promotion. Traveling on promotional flight passes such as the Air Canada Unlimited Flight Pass are not eligible for this promotion. Other terms and conditions apply.

While FlyerTalk members calculate in quantifiable numbers as to whether or not this promotion is really worth their participation, it seems like a fun promotion if you simply enjoy the challenge of attempting to fly to as many different places as possible — and that fun alone may be more than enough reason to participate in this promotion, if it did not last for only 66 days.

I don’t understand the point of these overly complicated promos, it sounds a lot like that “Star Challenge” promos that just ended. Who gets out of their way to book a flight to earn a badge if they were not already going to fly that route?
