- Luxury Room Club Sofitel
Prior to our arrival to the hotel, I emailed the hotel a couple of days before to make the necessary arrangements for our stay. My email was handle by the Head Butler at Club Sofitel (Club Millésime) and he reassured me that everything was in order.
Upon arrival to the hotel, we proceed directly to Club Sofitel (17th floor) for check in.
Check In
Upon arriving at Club Sofitel, we directed into the lounge to enjoy Afternoon Tea whilst the staff handled the usual check in procedures.
We booked 2 Standard Superior room and both rooms got upgraded to Luxury rooms located on the same floor as Club Sofitel (17th floor). However as Platinum benefits could obly apply to one room, only the cardholder's room got access to Club Sofitel and its benefits.
Room
We were given connecting rooms (1723 &1724).
The Luxury rooms here are well appointed. The usual Sofitel MyBed, Large work desk, comfortable sitting chair, Bose sound system (which sadly did not have an AUX cable so that we could connect our phone to play music), "HANDY" phone (gives you local mobile data to tour around Macau) and a moderate size bathroom with Hermés bath amenities. Our room had views facing the river and overlooked the border into Zhuhai.
One thing the hotel could improve on is to refurbish the carpets in the room. It's starting to look abit tired and a new set of carpet would look great. Otherwise, they could upgrade to use parquet flooring.
One unqiue thing about the bathroom is that the Hotel provides a Spa Bath Pillow where you can rest your head on while taking a bath, makes taking a bath alittle more comfortable than it already is. (It's the little things that makes it count in a 5 star hotel).
Additonally, the hotel also installed a TV so that when you take a bath, you can also watch TV at the same time. I've never seen this in a noraml room usually. I mostly see it as a standard in Junior Suites and above.
The welcome amenity consisted a plate of treats, fruit platter and a full bottle of wine. (I did decorate the plate with roses as they decorated the room with them)
Club Sofitel Lounge
The true highlight of my stay was the staff at the lounge. They were so great and really treated us well. Many greeted us by name and ensure we had a wonderful stay and attend to all our needs. I notice that during the weekends, the lounge is typically crowded compared to weekdays. At times, it would be filled with Mainland China Guest who tend to be QUITE loud and not considerate for the surrounding guest who would like to enjoy their time at the lounge during Breakfast, Afternoon Tea and Evening Cocktails.
The Lounge offers a small buffet breakfast with an ala minute counter where they make eggs, waffles, pancakes and creapes. See below for the menu and set up. And to those asking, yes, they do serve Sparkling Wine for Breakfast :)
For Afternoon Tea, they are currently in the process of revamping how they serve Afternoon Tea, however on my last day, I got a sneak preview of what it might be. A 3 tier tower of snacks and sweets. Below are the pictures and menu for Afternoon Tea.
Lastly, for Evening Cocktails, they have a spread of items in the buffet for one to enjoy. Alcohol selection is good. Not say fantastic nor dissapointing. Below are pictures and menu.
Service
Service at the hotel was touch and go. For example, ALL the Club Sofitel staff were amazing and understood english and had the best service while at the main restuarant, Mistral, most could understand english. Furthermore, attention to detail was slightly lacking at Mistral as it was a Buffet restaurant while at Le Chinois Cantonese restaurant, it was better in the sense that it was full on Ala Carte and attention detail was better although it was slight more diffcult to converse in English to the staff as they were mostly Chinese.
Dining
Food in the hotel was generally good. Breakfast at both the Lounge and Mistral (Main restaurant) had no issues. They were in fact kind of good without any sore points to add.
Additonally, I had a weekday Dinner Buffet at Mistral and I must say that it was well worth the price (MOP 328). The buffet offered seafood such as Freshly Shucked Oysters, Lobsters, Mussels, Crab Claw, Prawns and Japanese Sashimi. It also offered Western and Asian dishes which wer both excellent in its own way. The real highlight of the buffet were the drinks in my oponion. There was free flow Red and White wine (2 reds and 2 whites, both had French and Portuguese wines), Beers, Soft drinks, Juices and Coffee/Tea. For the price of MOP328, it was well worth the price and if I might add, one of the best deals in Macau for Dinner Buffet.
The only dissapointing experience I had was when I had lunch and dinner at Le Chinois during my stay and must say I was slightly dissapointed at the quality of food. Considering I was in Macau/China/Hong Kong. One would expect they would excel in their own local cuisine. However they did not, I would't say it was bad, but it could use more improvements.

Pool
I did not use the pool and niether did anyone else use it as it was around 13-19 degrees outside and the pool is not heated. So should you want to go in, enter at your own risk.
Overall
Overall, I would definetly recommend people to stay here should they want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Cotai Strip which is filled with Mainland Chinese guest and other tourist. The postive point of staying at the Sofitel is that you remain in the older city of Macau and local food is easy to find. Addiotnally, since Sofitel isn't a big hotel compared to The Venetian, MGM or Sands. Service here is far better and the staff to guest ratio and better. If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer them to the best of my knowledge.
