We had a  lovely stay here over New Year's. Fantastic use of a TSU

Check In

Check-in was swift. Recognized as Globalist, had the option of a 4pm checkout, which we knew we would not need. Very friendly and efficient staff. Explained all the benefits. Globalist breakfast is 40$ per registered guest to be used at Piper's

Room

We used a TSU to upgrade to the Grand Ocean Suite. This is truly a wonderful suite and corner room. Only downside according to me is the heating (for us in Winter) - or the cooling potentially when hot. There is only one thermostat at the entrance and no other temparature control in the bedroom or bathroom. The issue is that the warm air blows right near the entrance, and until the warm air comes around the corner in the Suite to heat up the bathroom, it would take ages. We never really had a warm bathroom, which was slightly disturbing especially after haven taken a shower. The floors were cold, too. No floor heating as as common in Switzerland (e.g. the PH Zurich).

The room however is wonderful, spacious. With an Illy coffee machine (though I prefer Nespresso).

Dining

Very mixed feelings at Piper's.

Having read all the great reviews here on FT as well as Google (4.9 rating), we wanted to have dinner on New Year's Eve. There was a set menu for 110$ or so, which sounded very appealing. However, having wanted to reserve on 29 Dec for the 31st, it was already sold out. So we decided to have dinner on the 29th.

Food was just about ok. Overrated in my view. It may sound great, that the make their own Pasta, and use locally sourced foods, but food was not very tasty. We were glad, that New Year's Dinner was already full booked.

Breakfast the next day was really good! on the 2nd day (31st), the only option was a buffet (non self-serve). This was a big disappointment. Scrambled eggs were not really fresh (i.e. "locally sourced"), maybe they were, but they tasted very much like at an HP, or powdered eggs (can't confirm though). On the 3rd morning, again only buffet was served, so we skipped it and went to a local IHOP, which was simply fantastic! on the 4th and last day, they had à la carte (which was great) plus buffet.

Piper's is overrated with a 4.9, to be honest.

Location

Location could not be better. Many other local restaurants nearby. I can recommend "Rosewood Kitchen" (all freshly made as well) and for a quick bite "Johnny Maniana's" (we almost had to wait till "maniana" :D), obviously right at the beach.

Wonderful view from our corner suite as well. Only downside regarding our balcony, it would have been nice to have a larger balcony that would fit chaise longues as well and not just 2 chairs.

Overall

Overall a wonderful stay. We will be back in June, but will then try the adjacent Mission Pacific. Some of the services can be used by both hotels, i.e. Pool.

Our room 501 was the top room with wrap around balcony

Some have mentioned noise from the trains. They do run pretty often, but noise was not disturbing whatsoever
