Check In
I arrived by taxi from FCO, and it was over midnight so not too many people around. Check-in was friendly, I was explained the amenities (rooftop pool already closed for the year, but cigar lounge was nice), thanked me for my loyalty etc.
I had checked in electronically the day before, I did not receive an upgrade above my chosen room, but it was pretty big anyway, so I did not feel like I needed one.
Room
I had booked Deluxe King, and I guess that is what I got. IMO relatively big room, with ample space around the bed. Opposite the bed was the wall-mounted television and under it a desk. Entrance was via a short corridor. On the left-hand side of the corridor is the entrance to the bathroom, which had a fairly big shower, but no bathtub.
Everything looked and felt new, no visible scuffs etc. anywhere (or maybe my eyesight is getting worse..it's possible!). Bed was quite high (I like it, but YMMV) and firm.
Service
Very good service, cheerful staff, always ready to help the weary traveller. This applied to staff at the breakfast, in the bar etc. Also, good command of English.
Dining
Breakfast buffet was not very wide, but all the ingredients were of high quality. Also, one can order items from the menu (with no extra cost, at least for DIA). I had eggs benedict twice, very good.
I had lunch in the restaurant on the sixth floor. Food was good, but pricey. I had a glass of white wine with the tuna, and was sort of hesitating between two choices. The waiter organized a small wine tasting, and I went with Riesling.
Location
Very centrally located, you can walk to many central tourist attractions, and there is a metro station just 300 meters from the front door. The area itself has lots of (tourist-targeting) restaurants. Via Nazionale (less than one kilometer) has plenty of shopping.
Overall
This hotel is not very cheap, but it offers a very nice Hilton alternative in the center of Rome. Location is excellent for most tourist-minded activities and shopping. Also, metro stop is very close.
The common areas are gorgeous, and everything has been maintained very well. History of the building shows through.
Service is good, and the staff (at least in the bar) is eager to chat with customers. Breakfast buffet is not very wide, but there are plenty of high-quality items for every taste. (My daughter is vegan, so I noticed that they have both soy and almond milk, for example.)
I didn't get to try the rooftop pool, as it was already closed for the winter, but the roof terrace looked nice, and must be pleasant in the summer. I did try the cigar lounge, though!
