Booked a Saturday night as we had a show nearby and was shocked at how differen the experience is.
Was pre upgraded to a Studio Suite then Harbour Executive. I specifically now request rooms away from Zephyr. Called to confirm of day of arrival and they operated said yes and the guest just checked out at 11AM so room shoud be ready in 2 hours.
Check In
Arrived at the hotel at 3PM after self parking through Wilson. It's cheaper than booking through the hotel.
Check in here is very slow and there are always lines. I found the Elite queue and was served next but took a good 10 mins to be told our room had to be inspected.
Was escorted up the Lounge. It took an hour for the room to be ready. I would normally complain but all ths suites were taken that night.
Room
Got to the room and have to say, this is my least favourite config. It's an old Harbour Balcony Suite at the edge of the old building. It showed its age with a smelly bathroom and tarnished paint on the balcony. The room size is quite small as is the balcony. This room had a filled mini bar.
On the plus side it was super quiet and didn't even get road noise.
Walking to the room was shocked at how many 'Party rooms' there seemed to be. I should know Darling Harbour has Home and a heap of other nightclubs and Saturday nights the clientle is very much this crowd. Near the elevator one room sounded like it had 20 young drunk guys partying away. Would be horrible to be next door to them.
Service
Went to the Club Lounge which had 2 hot items, Sausage Rolls and Arancini, salads and self pour drinks as well as some desserts. It was fine for an hour.
Dining
After the show we went up to Zephyr and now I know why the noise is so bad in the nearby rooms, it is LOUD. I couldn't hear the host at all and I tried to work out if any of it was quieter but it is universally LOUD. I'm sure the decibles are beyond what's legal.
We decided to go to the bar downstairs but it was closed. Ended up buying a Bottle of Grey Goose from the Bottle Shop across the road.
Breakfast was a bit of a Zoo but they look after Globs, took our coffee orders and we got the Eggs Benedict. It was fine, but nothing special.
Overall
Overall, it's still a good way to stay at a Hyatt for a few hundred dollars or burn a cert, but I would definitely avoid weekends in the future.
It felt like a huge step down from the PH, which it obvioulsy is, but it's less noticable during the week and without the crowds.
I would absolutely recommed the Studio Suite over these old Harbour Balcony Suites because they feel bigger and lighter.
