Check In
I was moving to this hotel from the nearby Doubletree (literally one block away), so I stopped by around 10 am to ask about the availability of rooms. Guy at the reception was very friendly and said that they would have a room ready for me within an hour. He took my mobile number and said they would text me when it was ready. Lo and behold, I received SMS some 75 minutes later. Somewhat later I came to the hotel again with my luggage, received my key...but no upgrade. I had booked Executive Corner King, and that's what I got. Mind you, perfectly good room for a solo traveller or a couple. (I forgot to check if the sofa could be opened to a bed.)
Room
Corner room had plenty of room for a solo traveler. Everything seemed quite new, and there were enough electric sockets. Good bluetooth speaker (JBL), also television big enough. View from the room was nothing to write home about, though. On the other hand, sound insulation was good, normal traffic was not audible at all.
Sofa/chair combo was comfortable, and I liked just sitting there reading.
Bathroom was large, although the bathtub (and its curtain) was obviously from earlier period. Still, two sinks, two large mirrors etc. would make this very convenient also for traveling duos. BeeKind bathroom amenities.
My large luggage fit into the one and only closet the room had, which was nice.
Service
Both front desk and restaurant had very good service. Friendly and proactive. I had some problems in attracting the attention of the guys at the front door, but eventually succeeded, they got me a cab, lifted my two pieces of luggage to its trunk etc.
Dining
I had dinner with a few friends at Level Two restaurant. I was positively surprised with the quality of food, my steak was near-perfect. Not too expensive even. Plenty of room in the restaurant, earlier in the evening there was a large party (wedding?) having a few drinks. Wine list was not very extensive, but they had enough variety also in the "by the glass" category..
Breakfast selection was OK, even for continental breakfast. Variety of meats and cheese was very good. Again, good service. OK, coffee was not very good...
Location
One block from Magnificent Mile, easy walking distance to many tourist-y places, very nice. There is a Starbucks on the ground floor, reception is on the second floor (you have to take an elevator up).
Gym
Pretty good selection of equipment. Several treadmills and exercise bikes, six or seven exercise machines plus free weights. Didn't feel cramped, but I was the only person there...
I did not try the pool, but it seemed very small.
