We normally stay at PHs, StRs or FS properties around the World and I was keen to try the Rosewood London and test the brand. To say we it was the definition of luxury would be an understatement.
I booked via a Junior Suite FHR and were upgraded to a Deluxe Suite pre arrival.
The stay was for a very belated celebration. We had very specific room requests and a fair bit of communication with the Concierge and Reservations team prior and each email was answered within hours.
Check In
We arrived at the hotel and once you enter the Courtyard you feel you are entering a different World. At least three doormen greeted us with warm smiles and we were escorted to check in where we were greeted by Sonila. Sonila was charming, delightful and welcoming. She was fabulous, explained our FHR benefits and invited us for a welcome drink.
We said we were keen to try to Patron Terrace and she invited us to have a drink there, take our time and she would escort us to the room. We had some Margarita and snacks which were comped.
We went back to the lobby where Sonila escorted us to the room.
I must say that the Lobby and Common areas are striking. There are design touches in every corner of the hotel and it feels very upscale residential.
Room
We passed the Grand Marble staircase as Sonilla told us of the history of the property as the Pearl Insurance Company built in 1921.
I am a light sleeper and specifically requested a high floor, exterior facing and quiet room. The windows were double glazed and sound proofed, but I did not wish for a courtyarf facing room because of the Patron Terrace and cars entering and leaving throughout the day and night.
The room is understated elegance. We value space when we travel and only stay in suites or villas. The large living room with long Velvet couch was perfect for us to laze around the room in.
The bedroom was also large and the bed comfortable.
There was a separate bathroom and shower with full bath and the iconic hand hammered sinks.
Both TVs had high grade sound systems and sub woofers which my husband appreciated as he works in the entertainment industry and enjoys watching TV and Films when in the room.
The room also had a separate Butler's entrance.
Service
We had dedicated Butlers who, likee everyone at the property, went above and beyond. Anything we requested was delivered within minutes. The staff also anticicpated our needs. When we asked for extra F&B than what was in the mini bar they were delivered in abundance. Our chosen coffees and cocktail orders were remembered without asking and delivered. When housekeeping noticed our liquid travel bags had torn, they replaced them with Rosewood branded bags.
They knew we prefer housekeeping when we are out and they waited for us to have breakfast during which time housekeeping cleaned the room so it was clean for the day. As we had friends visit this was appreciated.
We didn't sign a single bill and all of the staff we engaged with were so personable and built rapport easily while stil maintaining a professional manner, something many properties fail to achieve where the staff are either too familiar or disengenious.
The Concierge was also a stand out. We booked a late table at Aqua at the Shard and when we arrived, we were greeted with Mimosas again and they escorted us to the Private Dining Room thanks to the Rosewood.
Dining
Breakfast was offered in the Holborn Dining or Mirror Room, both of which were very good.
My husband was excited for the Pie Room and said it one of the best Pies he's ever had. We met the Pie Chef which was quite a cool hotel experience watching him freshly bake each day.
Location
We've been to London many times and much preferred this location. We walked to Covent Garden and the property being off the street means it is like an oasis of calm in a bustling city.
Overall
I was very much looking forward to my first Rosewood experience and this went above and beyong my expectations.
Service and culture come from the top and the GM Michael has a wonderful property. The staff all seem very proud to work at the Rosewood and we left with some great memories. It is a uniquely British experience.
I was surprised by how the busy the property was, however we always felt looked after. There were clearly some celebs and other important people judging by the cars and private security, some of whom were in bullet proof vests en guard, but we never felt catered to less than.
I'm already planning on booking Rosewood HKT and BKK for our upcoming Thai vacation and will choose Roswood properties in future.
