Getting from any terminal at JFK to the hotel is quite easy as there are markings everywhere. Once you get off the elevator at terminal five just follow the signs that they have plastered literally every 10 feet. It's just a quick walk once you're outside the terminal.
The closest plane to my window is probably 75 to 100 yards away. Mostly Jet Blue metal. It is actually pretty cool to lie in bed with the pillows propped up and watch all the aircraft landing and taking off.
Pool
Went up to the rooftop deck where there is a pool and a bar area. Because of the pandemic reservations are required for the bar area. They also charge something like $25 if you just want to hang out and not spend any money. I didn't bother.
Room
Got a room with a very large queen size bed and a view of the runway. The room has three ceiling to floor windows with automatic shades. The dusk area is cleverly hidden along a narrow strip between the bed in the bathroom. Bathroom is actually quite spacious for New York City standards. Nice little touches like TWA water glasses and posters throughout the room. The phone is an old rotary dial style.
Check In
Check in was quick and efficient. The "lobby" is quite massive obviously. Loads of people walking around just taking pictures and hanging out. Getting from the check-in desk to the elevators is quite a hike and doesn't appear to be handicap accessible as there are numerous stairs. Also there are no markings to her and find the elevator so ask for specific instructions when you check in.
Dining
The main bar in the hotel lobby was closed permanently due to the pandemic. They do have 24 hour food options in the lobby. It's basically high priced airport food. You can get some beers to take to your room from there which was nice.
Overall
All in all this is a pretty cool hotel whether or not you're an airline buff or not. They even have day rates if you've just got time to kill with a
