My wife and I cashed in the 125,000 point reward for 7nites at the Kauai Marriott. It was Mrs. Dugernauts 40th birthday, so we wanted someplace special. My wife started working on the reservations in November. We were unable to book thru the rewards desk number and needed to call the hotel directly. We also wanted to use Continental FF miles for our tickets, so it took her quite a few phone calls to coordinate the two dates. We ended up staying 7 nites in Kauai at the Marriott on points and two nites at the newly acquired Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort. I will post a separate report for this hotel.

The Marriott Kauai is as others have commented beautiful and huge. We arrived on a Saturday evening w/out bags, they didn’t make the connection, but arrived shortly thereafter. Check-in was efficient, although there were no benefits for Gold Membership in Marriott rewards. I asked about breakfast coupons, and the clerk explained that as a resort location, they get to do things there way. We were unable at reservation time to get the reward room without an upgrade to Oceanview at an additional $60.oo per nite. We were on the 10th floor with a very nice room. Clean and recently updated., with a comfortable couch and coffee table and balcony with chairs and a table.

This property is made up of 4 towers, two of which are dedicated to the Vacation Club Suites. The pool is indeed huge, and we did not have any trouble locating lounges any time of the day. We found the hotel staff to be very nice and accommodating. The concierge service was great whether it was for making Tee times or dinner reservations. The Health Club was clean with lots of new equipment in good working order. My wife used the SPA services, and was very pleased.

All in all it was a great trip, and I would be more than happy to go into greater detail regarding any specific questions anyone has. A special Thank You to LIH Prem for his assistance in planning a memorable vacation, I wish our schedules had coordinated better.
