Stats

With the travel season opened in US, we get opportunities to use our Free Night Award (FNA) from the credit card.  Most of the FNAs are up to 35,000 points (some are 50k), not based on hotel categories.  But with most of the Marriott hotels in peaking pricing now, those FNAs are most suitable for category 4 and lower properties.

TownePlace Suites Providence North Kingstown is a Marriott category 4 hotel that commands 30,000 points during peaking season.  It is Marriott extended stay category brand.  We normally do not stay at such brand.  But with the hotel location and the category, we decided to give it a try for the weekend leisure stay.

This hotel is located in the town of North Kingstown.  It is 15 miles or 25 minutes to Newport, RI.  20 miles or 30 minutes to Providence RI.  It is about 10 minutes to Quonset Airport and the Rhode Island Fast Ferry port to Block Island, Martha Vineyard and the Bay Cruise Tour.

Check In

Two days before actual stay, Marriott app sent notification for remote check-in.  It was really easy.  Contacted hotel and hotel informed us that hotel was fully booked for the weekend due to some wedding.  Hotel upgraded us to a two-bedroom suite.  It was a nice surprise.

Check-in was very smooth.  We were allocated room number via Marriott app and room key was available on the phone app.

Hotel verified ID and credit card.  As an extended stay hotel, no other service was provided.

The lobby area is spacious, nicely decorated.  It smells fresh.  There is also a small business desk.

Room

The two-bedroom suite was nice.  Good impression.

The beds seem like full size beds, not the queen beds.  Not certain.  There is also a sleeper sofa in the living room if needed.  We did not need it.

The suite has full kitchen with full refrigerator, microwave oven, dishwasher and kitchen utensils.  This was one of the reason that we booked TownePlace for the access to kitchen.  We like to try the seafood from the local market.

The hotel is near local route 1 and there is a local road.  In general it is quiet.  But in the morning, we could hear some road traffic.  It does not appear room location matters much.

Service

As an extended service hotel, not service was provided.

The front desk staff was nice.  But they did not acknowledge Marriott status and did not mention welcome gift.  I guess they probably do not really care since all guests are treated about the same.

Dining

Due to covid, there is no morning buffet breakfast.  Brown bag breakfast was provided with muffin and some snacks.  All other items are available, cereal (+milk), sausage+egg sandwich, fruits, juice and coffee.

The hot sausage egg sandwich tasted good.  Fine with brown bag breakfast.

Location

The hotel location is the most attractive.  We visited Newport RI before, so we did not want to stay in Newport.  We are also not interested in Providence.  North Kingstown is at the Narragansett bay.  It is the closest to the Quonset Point where we take the Rhode Island Bay Cruise.

The hotel is also 10 minute drive to Wickford Village and about 10 minutes to East Greenwich.

Overall

Yes, TownePlace Suites by Marriott Providence North Kingstown is a lowly category 4 extended stay hotel.  It fits our need nicely.  This is a nice property to use the 35,000 FNAs that we get plenty from the travel lockdown.  Some world travel has re-started, but it is still a hit-and-miss with international travel.  So we focus more on short weekend stays in local areas.

The location of the hotel is perfect for what we want.  We love the two-bedroom suite.  It is very spacious and comfortable.  The hotel is not new, but it is maintained well.

The staff is nice.  Room service was good.  We are fine with brown bag breakfast.

This hotel is mostly sold out for weekends over the summer.  Its weekday cash rates are about $250-$300 range.  So we get good value using the FNAs for the weekend stay.

This is a nice property to consider when visit Narragansett Bay area.

Gym and Pool

The hotel has a small gym.  It has various exercise equipment.

It also has an indoor pool.  Good size.

Both facilities require special keys from the front desk due to the pandemic.
