Stats

After a series of misconnections on intra EU LH flights I decided that rather than take two flights to Salzburg we would fly to Munich and then take the OBB Railjet so booked a last minute one night stay in a Premium Andaz Art Suite.

I had contacted the Concierge to book a table at the Rooftop Bar at 6:30PM as I heard it was quite popular and we had dinner booked at a restaurant at 8PM.

Check In

We arrived at the hotel at around 5PM where we were welcomed by Host Rafaella. Rafaella was delightfully warm, welcoming and clearly excited to be working at the Andaz. I immediately picked up on her accent and we have similar heritage which we bonded over.

During the check in process she said that we had been allocated the biggest Art Suite and her favourite room in the hotel. She explained that all of the art has been made by teenagers in diversion programs and there were detailed QR codes on the wall with the history of each piece.

She offered us two welcome drink vouchers, explained breakfast and offered to escort us to the room, but I declined as we were happy to find our own way.

I was rather impressed as I have stayed at the Andaz WeHo since it first opened and always lowered my expectations of service at Andaz, but this first impression completely countered those experiences.

Room

We arrived to the room and it was a large and modern studio with a large bed, 1.5 bathrooms living and dining area. The couch was massive. The mini bar included some home made Cola (which I love), some Beer and waters. While it is described as having not much of view, there was greenery in front of the hotel.

We also had a card and welcome amenity of Honey as the hotel has its own Beehives, like the PHS.

It's worth noting that the hotel is made up of separate, connected builldings. While the room was perfect, I immediately noticed a screaming Baby through the connecting door. I looked at my husband who mentioned that depending on its age, it may well cry through the night. We decided to wait before deciding whether to ask for a different room.

Dining

We went up to the rooftop bar which was buzzing. It's clearly a destination amongst locals.

We were immediately greeted by the Bar Manager who had previously worked at the PHS and escorted us to our table. We were also told that we could enjoy the Rooftop and they would hold our table.

Our waiter was incredible promptly offering suggestions and fast tracking our drinks. We walked up the staircase with sweeping views of Munich.

Service

While we were getting dressed, the Baby next door kept crying so I decided to mention to the Hosts on the way out. They said there were no other Art Suites, but they may be able to offer a higher category Andaz View Suite. Proactively they offered to move our luggage for us, however we had slightly unpacked so I said I would swing by after dinner.

When we arrived they had new keys ready, we were escorted to the room while a Host offered to take our bags and took us to the new room.

This room was more of a true suite with a separate living area and bedroom. I much preferred it and was happy to get a good night's sleep.

The amazing service continued the next day with the F&B Manager looking after us at breakfast, taking our orders and brining us two glasses of Moet. She also offered us a bottle of the hotel's home made Olive Oil, but as we travel Hand Luggage Only we couldn't carry it as it was 500mLs.

It was clear that this Andaz takes service seriously and looks after Globalists. We were so impressed.

Pool

The Andaz has a Rooftop Pool (separate rooftop to the Bar) with views of Munich. The weather was a glorious 30 degrees so we spent the next day lazing by the pool until we had to leave at 5PM.

The pool, like the rest of the hotel, is ultra moden metal and glass. There is also a cafe attached to the Terrace where you can order food and drink.

We had some miserable weather earlier in the trip and this was our last chance to tan before heading back to Sydney Winter.

Overall

Overall, this was a wonderful stay and changed my mind about the Andaz brand.

Despite being a luxury traveller, I prefer being referred to by my first name and this Andaz seems to mix a more casual relationship with top tier service. Every staff member we interacted with was wearing an Andaz Pride Pin, the same logo that adorns the front of the hotel and despite it being a small gesture, it has a big impact on couples like us.

The Andaz Munich is a really stunning, modern property that exceeded my expectations. I am now willing to try other locations like Bali and Pattaya after this stay.
