Deluxe Park View Suite

I am normally a FS or St Regis person in NYC but recently stayed at the RC CPS for 4 nights. To summarize, it was terrific!

I was skeptical about the location ( worried in Dec. too many tourists), afraid the rooms too old, and the prices were high for this skepticism, but I was happily surprised. It was terrific.

The hotel is in a relatvely quiet location on CPS - just far enough down from the Plaza to be more discreet. Yes there are hose carriages across the street, and it is on the corner of 6th, but surprisingly it seemed fairly low key for the area, and at the same time very conviently located. Maybe this was Digue to the poor weather but it was in the crazy month of December!

Room

I must say I usually am in NYC on business but this time my husband came with me so sort of a combo business/ fun trip. We checked in on a Sunday night and were told our room was not ready - at 9:00 at night?? Turned out the reason being it was a double upgrade from a deluxe park view to a deluxe park view suite on a high floor with gorgeous views, loads of space (particularly closets), and 2 full baths. Actually may have been a triple upgrade! Anyway, we loved the room! Yes the carpet for example was a bit old and it could have used a refresh, but ad all the modern conveniences - laptop size safe, flat screen good size tvs ( although never turned them on), good sized bathrooms with separate walk in showers, and oh did I say closet space - loads - not that it was needed with two carry ons but given the Dec. weather nice to have proper coat closet, his and hers, etc!

So you may be asking despite the beautiful room, why not ready at 9:00 pm on a Sunday? Well as it turns out it had been a crazy weekend - height of the shopping season! They handled it beautifully. After flying across the coast they bought us two gorgeous glasses of wine at the lovely bar ( strong pours and great bartender) and snacks galore to curb our appetite for our upcoming 10:00pm dinner at Marea. And then the room....they definately turned lemons into lemonade and without a complaint or raised voice from my husband or me. Totally proactive and of course I will return!

Service

Service throughout the stay was top, notch. There is a hotel car readily available, the times were very busy and the doorman went out if his way to hail taxis when it was not available - I used to live in nyc so when I say out of his way, I mean out of his way - practically running down 6th or across the street in the rain and snow. Room service, housekeeping, concierge, front desk - everyone seemed to know our name by day 2 and it was excellent.

Dining

My only complaint is the restaurant did not look like much. We never ate there as had room service breakfast and all lunches and dinners booked. Had drinks in the bar a couple of times and enjoyed. Did not sign up for the executive floor as were planning eating out all the time, and drinks in various places with friends. If I had been alone might have done.

Overall

Anyway, verdict is terrific. Yes rooms and hallways could use some soft improvements like new carpets, wall coverings, restaurant not that appealing but not bad, but everything else A+. I will return! Of course certainly the upgrade helped
